That theory is being validated in Gainesville, as the Florida Gators have just lost one of their four-star recruits.
On Tuesday night, four-star quarterback Nick Evers announced that he’s decommitting from Florida.
“With the heaviest of heart, after much prayer and discussion with the closest to me, I have decided to decommit from the University of Florida,” Evers wrote. “Im so thankful to Coach Mullen and Coach McGee, who gave me the opportunity to attend UF. Additionally, I want to thank Coach Napier for allowing me to be a small part of his vision.
“Mostly, I would like to thank Gator Nation – you have welcomed us, and my heart will forever belong to this special place! Florida deserves greatness and I wish nothing but blessings to you all!”

Evers is the No. 122 overall recruit and No. 8 quarterback in the 2022 class, per 247Sports.
While it sounds like Evers had no issue with Billy Napier, the reality is he committed to Florida when Dan Mullen was at the helm. It makes sense that he would want to reconsider his options at this time.
Auburn, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Penn State and several other programs pursued Evers during his initial recruitment period. Perhaps they’ll make a second run at him now that he’s available.
