In recent years the Big Ten schools have relaxed their restrictions on selling beer at their home football games. Nebraska was one of the few teams that maintained that restriction. But they might not be for long.
On Thursday, Chris Dunker of the Lincoln Journal Star reported that the University of Nebraska Board of Regents will consider allowing alcohol sales at Husker games. It hasn’t been voted on yet but is on the agenda for discussion.
As of this past August, Nebraska and Michigan were the only Big Ten schools that didn’t allow beer sales on gameday. A few years ago, 12 of the 14 schools prohibited it. The times are clearly changing.
Nebraska fans on Twitter appear pretty hyped for the potential. Though some are having a little fun with the pending move, making some jokes at the Huskers’ expense:
The Board of Regents definitely was watching all of our 1 score losses last year and felt bad for the fans https://t.co/ap5qvjEcUw

Husker football was already driving fans to drink, so why not profit off of it? https://t.co/CylajXybL1

Naturally, there are some out there who are not in favor of the move. Given how many people attend games at Memorial Stadium, some are concerned there could be consequences.
phenomenal news for my father, terrible news for campus cops https://t.co/lNRMGymF7V

Alcohol sales are a decently sized part of Nebraska’s overall economy. Given how much of it would change hands during Nebraska’s six home games every year, a lot of businesses could benefit greatly from the move.
But no one would benefit more than the University of Nebraska itself, which stands to add millions in extra revenue if this goes through.
Will we see alcohol sales at Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium approved this year?
