The father of legendary Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is the latest figure to offer public criticism of Kyler Murray this offseason.
Murray and the Cardinals have been going back-and-forth all offseason, with the quarterback’s agent firing off the latest salvo yesterday. Erik Burkhardt, Murray’s representation, released a letter Monday indicating his client wants to remain in Arizona but ideally wants a massive contract extension in order to do so.
This morning, Larry Fitzgerald Sr., a longtime Minnesota sports reporter, drew attention when he claimed on Twitter that Murray was “spoiled” and had “never been humbled.” Those words echoed what ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, citing Cardinals sources, reported about Murray on Super Bowl Sunday.
Considering Murray played alongside Fitzgerald’s son for his first two NFL seasons, his comments seem to be causing some waves in NFL circles.

This opinion of Murray is not new. It is just being magnified now due to recent events. https://t.co/D9foUa9AQC

Fitzgerald Sr’s assessment of Murray is a lot more biting than what his son and future Hall of Fame wide receiver had to say two weeks ago when the drama between Murray and the Cardinals was first heating up.
“I haven’t talked to Kyler in a while but he looked good in the Pro Bowl, looked like he was having a great time, throwing touchdowns out there,” Larry Fitzgerald said. “I just hope everything works out the way both sides want it to work out. That’s really what it’s all about for me. I love Kyler, I love the Cardinals and I want the best for everybody.”
It seems like there is definitely tension between the Cardinals and their quarterback, but considering Murray’s early career arc and status as one of the better young signal callers in the NFL, we would be surprised if the two sides part ways.
Crazier things have happened though.
